I began writing freelance in 2005, oddly enough through my love of
comic books. I'd written a few scripts for small press comics
that
some of my artist-friends enjoyed and wanted to help me produce, and I
quickly gained a reputation in
those circles as a writer with real talent. Then one day, one
of
my friends came to me looking for some copy for one of the
web sites he
was building for a somewhat technical client--a dentist's office.
He liked my work, the client was more than satisfied, and thus a
commercial freelance writer was born.
In my career, I've done commercial writing for major Fortune 500 companies, city, state, and federal government agencies, growing mid-sized businesses, and small businesses struggling to survive. I've done technical writing and marketing-related writing, and I'm not afraid to get in there and see what really makes a business go. To me, that's the only way to make sure that I'm providing a quality service.
I like writing for small business because that's where the action is. That's where the drive of the individual separates winners from losers. I love it. And that's why I'm here. I want to help you make your business succeed. I think it's a noble calling.
I've had a broad-based professional education. I graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1995 with a B.S. in European History. I did my required engineering coursework in Computer Science and Database Design. I then spent the next five years as an officer in the U.S. Army. I served in the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division near Savannah, Georgia, as a Tank Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Brigade Staff Officer and then in the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry in the Republic of Korea as both the Squadron's Adjutant and Assistant Operations Officer for Planning. After I left the Army, I worked briefly as a consultant for Kurt Salmon Associates in Atlanta, Georgia, where I did my first commercial writing. While working as a consultant in early 2001, I penned two major client deliverables and an operations manual for a distribution center.
I moved to New York City for my current job in August of 2001. I began my MBA coursework at Fordham University the next year. It was there that I discovered my interest in marketing, and I took most of my electives in that field. I graduated from Fordham with honors in 2006 and was awarded the school's prestigious Irving S. Freidman Award for excellence in international studies. I was also hand-selected by the faculty to carry the Business School's guidon during the University Commencement. This was an unprecedented honor for a part-time student.
I write freelance because I enjoy it and because I'm good at it. As a freelance writer, I face new challenges every day, and that's part of what gets me excited to get out of bed in the mornings. I also like to help people make their businesses work. I'm not a guy who needs to see his name in print on a byline somewhere to feel appreciated. I've been there and done that, and I've learned that when given the choice, I'd rather just help get the job done right. That's why I'm here.
If you need a freelance writer, I'm here for you. Give me a chance, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
