Club Hades
Comic Book mini-series proposal
Concept & Overview
Hades, god of the underworld, has escaped his underworld prison beyond the River Styx, and openly defies Zeus’ decree that, because Man has outgrown them, the gods should leave men to their own devices.
Hades wants to be free, to live, and to achieve the greatness he believes the gods are destined to achieve. So he takes over the criminal underworld of 1920’s New York and uses trickery, treachery and Tommy guns to fight the rest of the Olympian pantheon in a battle for primordial supremacy.
While the Olympians live out eternity in luxury Hades, with his resurrected henchmen Achilles and Odysseus, has made his first move toward temporal power in the Mafia. This first step toward becoming the Mafia Boss of Bosses forces Zeus’ hand and begins a war whose stakes are nothing short of ultimate power.

Synopsis
The first story arc is four issues, and has an ending that is suitable to end the series, but remains open-ended in order to explore further stories in this mythos:
Issue 1: Hades is accidentally freed from The Underworld, and sets himself up as a minor mafia boss and begins his play to take over the crime syndicate of New York City and gather temporal power. Artemis, ever watchful of the mortal world, warns Zeus that he must act against his brother, but her warnings fall on ears deafened by a 5000-year malaise of gluttony and hedonism.
Issue 2: Also questing for immortal power, Hades consults with The Fates and learns that, in order to rule supreme over gods and men, he must have Primordial Power, which he can only gain by partaking in a Sacred Marriage of the divine as all the god-kings before him did. Finally giving in to Artemis’ pleas, Zeus sends Artemis and his wife Hera to New York to sue for peace as emissaries from Olympus.
Issue 3: Artemis and Hera arrive in New York as emissaries from Olympus, and Hades convinces Hera, long tired of ruling from an empty, decadent throne, to join him in his quest for power. Artemis tries to stop them, and is nearly killed by Achilles. Odysseus intervenes and provides for her escape back to Olympus, and hints to her that he might be willing to turn against Hades and assist Olympus. Hera and Hades consummate their Sacred Marriage with a bloody war to take over the New York crime Syndicate.
Issue 4: As Hades and Hera complete their takeover of The Mob, Zeus finally takes action. With his power gone after the breaking of his Sacred Marriage with Hera, he orders Hephaestus to create a sword with the sole purpose of killing a god, and has Poseidon deliver it to Odysseus. Achilles, fearing Odysseus’ treachery and the fact that Hades’ death would destroy his second chance at life, tries to stop Odysseus. After nearly killing him, Achilles learns that Odysseus and Hades are working together in a careful plan, and use the god-bane sword to kill Hera. On dying, her share of the Primordial Power granted through the Sacred Marriage is transferred to Hades, who can now rule all worlds unopposed…
…For now.
